One of the things that the cats help me with is my quilting.  They've been known to knock my thread down and roll it around until it is wound nicely around the furniture.  They love sitting in the middle of a warm, new quilt - one untouched by any other cat.  Actually they prefer pillows, but will settle for a homemade quilt.  Recently they have chewed the foot pedal on the sewing machine to the point of no return - apparently, that cord is a great teething device for growing kittens.  Quilts are often displayed on a rack and their favorite game is to take running leaps at the rack until it tips over and I come running to scold them and put all those lovely quilts back.  I did do a cat quilt with a Burmese on and it hangs over at the University of California at Davis in their visitor area.
Living with Burmese cats require a sense of humor and a great deal of patience.  I'm a Burmese breeder
of over 30 years and I've spent my life raising these delightful creatures.  This blog will attempt to reach out to other Burmese owners and to share thoughts with them.  I'll begin this blog by talking about Mr. Friendly.  Friendly is a male sable Burmese, age 4 years.  He is the most loving of all the cats I have raised and will spend literally hours on your shoulder purring away.  He prefers to sleep under the covers at night as close to a warm body as he can get.  Friendly had a bad eye when he was a kitten and I guess that was God's way of deciding he should stay here and be a pet cat.  He had the misfortune to get out of the house one day and from a distance I could see the two dobermans playing catch with a black object.  I went running over and there was  Friendly lying so very still on the ground.  I was sure he was dead.  I picked him up, scolded the dogs, and ran for the house and when I got inside, put Friendly down and he walked away.  I did a lot of squeezing to be sure he was ok -- and he appeared to come through the episode with flying colors.  However, it was a great example of being too friendly. Today the cats and dogs interface in the house and all is well but Friendly doesn't go outside any more.
